Dougal Haston and Doug Scott made the first ascent of Everest by its South West Face – “Everest: The Hard Way”. Although these two reached the summit, the climb was very much a team ascent under the leadership of Sir Chris Bonington. The crux section through the Rock Band was first climbed by Nick Escourt and “Tut” Braithwaite. Doug and “Tut” will give a one-off special 35th Anniversary lecture.
